We have always been resilient. As Alaska Native people, our ancestors lived off the land, followed the seasons, gathered food, and held each other up in strong communities. That way of life was disrupted when we were forced to assimilate into a western way of living. With that came generational trauma—pain that showed up in poor coping skills, substance use, and cycles that were never part of who we are. But I believe, and I know, that we hold the keys to our own healing. Mental health matters.
