By taking a few extra steps before, during, and after you burn debris, you can reduce the risk of it escaping. First and most importantly, call your local ODF office or fire district to see if it's a good burn day. Keep a charged hose and a shovel on hand and stay with your pile until it is out and cold to the touch. While conducting a proficiency flight for our ODF multi-mission observer training, one of our new aerial observers detected a small fire on U.S. Forest Service land from the multi-mission aircraft. The trainee reported the fire and partners responded within the hour.
