On this day in January 1945, 45 Commando advanced through Holland in an operation to push the German 15th Army across the rivers Roer and Wurm. The commandos were held up in well-defended positions by Montforterbeek Dyke. After hard fighting in bitterly cold weather, the leading marines achieved their objectives, while headquarters continued to be subjected to heavy shelling. It was in this action, Lance Corporal Harden, of the Royal Army Medical Corps, who was attached to A Troop, crawled in th
