Last weekend, Atkinson Construction installed this 223-foot-long, 246,500-pound record-setting girder on the new southbound I-5 Puyallup River bridge in Tacoma. We pulled together a video of the installation. It's the longest prestressed girder ever manufactured in the United States. UPDATE 4:13 p.m.: On Wednesday, we cleared a path through the slides for emergency vehicle access. We also worked with Pierce County Emergency Management to coordinate an escorted convoy for residents. We'll continue to work to evaluate damage and develop a plan to safely reopen the road to all travelers. We'll update again when we know more.
