Florida has two species of Cypress (Taxodium); 1) Pond Cypress, Taxodium ascendens 2) Bald Cypress,Taxodium distichum Both species are found growing in submerged to wet soils. Pond Cypress is typically found in shallow ponds, wet savannas, and along blackwater streams and creeks. Bald Cypress is usually found along rivers, bottomland swamps and lake margins.
