This is our bedtime routine for my very wired 6-year-old. He doesn’t need silence, stillness, or “calm down” at bedtime. He needs proprioceptive input, the kind that helps his nervous system feel grounded and safe. Pushing, jumping, deep pressure, playful connection, these aren’t winding him up. They’re helping his body come down. For some children, bedtime struggles aren’t behavioural. They’re physiological. Once his body feels regulated, sleep follows far more easily.
