Fauna & Flora’s rescue plan. In December 2009, with support from Fauna & Flora, the last four breeding individuals (two males and two females) were flown from the zoo to Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy in a final attempt to save the subspecies from extinction. It was hoped that a more natural environment would stimulate them to breed.

Dec 19, 2024 · The Sombrero ground lizard is a critically endangered reptile, endemic to a tiny Caribbean island near Anguilla. In 2018, it was estimated that fewer than 100 individuals of the species were left in the wild – it was on the very brink of extinction.

Helmeted hornbill. The helmeted hornbill is arguably the most extraordinary of Asia’s forest hornbills. Its visual appearance – characterised by bizarre facial features and disproportionately long central tail feathers – is striking enough, but this bird is more often heard than seen.

Fewer than 600 Sumatran tigers are estimated to remain in the wild. These magnificent, elusive big cats are listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to poaching, habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.
