A man fleeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity at a Home Depot was killed after running onto a freeway, California officials say. The Monrovia Police Department got a call about possible ICE activity at 9:43 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, Monrovia City Manager Dylan Feik said in a statement.
Montoya Valdez’s identity was confirmed by the Guatemalan consulate, said Pablo Alvarado, director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, who was at the Home Depot parking lot in Monrovia on Friday. Montoya Valdez is from Jutiapa, Guatemala, he said.

Advocates were planning a vigil for Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez, 52, at the Home Depot site of the raid. DHS officials said they were not targeting the man.
