Disney is sharing the reason why the Star Wars universe-set series The Acolyte was canceled after only one season on Disney+. In a new interview, Co-chairman of Disney Entertainment Alan Bergman is revealing why it was decided not to move forward with a second season of the series.

The Disney brass was “happy” enough with how The Acolyte performed this summer, but the live-action Star Wars series’ “cost structure” ultimately dictated its cancellation after one season, an exec has shared with Vulture.

The “cost structure” Berman refers to is that Disney spent $231 million to make The Acolyte. The total came out after the site That Park Place released tax documents about the show’s production. It’s the second-most expensive Star Wars show ever. Andor is first with a budget of $250 million.
