A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of John Beam, the Laney College Athletic director who was featured in the Netflix series "Last Chance U."

Authorities arrested a suspect early Friday in the Laney College campus shooting of legendary Oakland football coach John Beam, multiple sources told this news outlet.

Mayor Barbara Lee described Beam as a “giant” and a mentor, educator and lifeline for young people.
