Nations are crafting the first global, legally binding treaty on plastics pollution. People are getting creative to put the pressure on to get a deal done at the meeting at the United Nations office in Geneva.

Procedural rules for the plastics treaty negotiations say that, for substantive issues, delegates “ shall make every effort ” to reach agreement by consensus. Otherwise they can vote by a two-thirds majority,
