Duke of Sussex’s uncle says it is “wonderful” his nephew ‘fought for – and gained – an apology to his mother’ in court case

This morning, Prince Harry reached a surprise settlement with News Group Newspapers (NGN)—including a reported eight-figure sum and a public apology over allegations of unlawful activities.

In addition to issuing a “full and unequivocal” apology for the “serious intrusion” into his private life, the newspaper group also made a retroactive apology to Diana, Princess of Wales, who the prince has claimed was “one of the first victims” of phone hacking.

NGN also apologized to the Duke for the impact on him of the "extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life as well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales."

Prince Harry claimed victory in his long-running legal battle against Rupert Murdoch's British newspaper group, after reaching a deal to settle his lawsuit which included an apology for unlawful actions relating to the Sun for the first time.

News Group Newspapers offered a “full and unequivocal apology” to Harry for the “serious intrusion” into his private life by the Sun between 1996 and 2011.
