California Attorney General Rob Bonta says the state is joining 20 others in suing the Trump administration over the mass firings of federal employees.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and attorneys general from seven other Democratic states are suing the Trump administration, claiming it illegally terminated federal grant funding for K-12 teacher preparation programs – a decision the attorneys general say will ultimately hurt students at a time when the nation is already facing teacher shortages.

In Colorado, nearly $2.8 million in funding that addresses the state’s ongoing teacher shortage in rural communities is at risk, Attorney General Phil Weiser said.

The Department of Justice is opening an investigation into the University of California to assess if the university system has allowed an antisemitic hostile work environment to exist on its campus. The investigation is being sanctioned under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,

The Justice Department on Wednesday announced it is investigating the University of California system over allegations of antisemitism in the wake of protests that broke out on several campuses over the war between Israel and Hamas.

Officials will examine whether “a pattern or practice of discrimination” against Jewish professors and staff existed on 10 California campuses.
