Africa’s top public health agency says that Uganda’s Ebola caseload increased to 14 in the last week with a new cluster emerging from a 4-year-old child who recently died of the infectious disease.

A new cluster of Ebola cases has emerged in Uganda, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Thursday, adding that efforts were being made to intensify monitoring and contact-tracing measures.

An investigation into Uganda's latest Ebola Sudan patient, a 4-year-old boy who recently died, revealed that his mother and newborn sibling died a few weeks earlier from likely Ebola virus infections, the World Health Organization (WHO) African regional office said in its weekly health emergencies update.

Health officials face challenge in containing the outbreak.

Uganda's Ebola virus caseload has risen to 12, up from 10, with two people who died early last month being considered probable cases, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.
