While the father has been arrested on charges of manslaughter and child abuse, an autopsy to determine the infant's exact cause of death is pending.

A 5-month-old died after its father fell asleep on the baby while intoxicated, Paradise police said. The father, 23-year-old Daniel Eastman, of Paradise, was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail. He faces charges that include manslaughter and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury or death.
