Over 1,000 people have signed a petition is urging Tennessee lawmakers to mandate metal detectors in all schools.

The position of the camera and the shooter led to an AI-powered weapon detection system failing to pick up on a student's gun.

Police said the suspect fatally shot himself after killing a 16-year-old and wounding a 17-year-old at Antioch High School.

The 17-year-old shooter, who was also a student at Antioch High School, later shot and killed himself with a handgun, Metro Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron said during a news conference. Police identified him as Solomon Henderson.

A 17-year-old boy who opened fire in his Nashville high school's cafeteria fired a total of 10 shots from a 9 mm pistol within 17 seconds of entering the room.

The shooter was “significantly influenced by web-based material, especially that found on non-traditional sites that most would find harmful and objectionable,” police said.
