Steve Smith became the fourth Australian to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket on Wednesday on the opening day against Sri Lanka. But a cruel twist of fate meant none of his family and friends were in attendance to see it live.

Steve Smith has become the 15th player in Test cricket, and fourth Australian, to score 10,000 runs in a career. Needing just one run, Smith brought up the milestone on his first delivery, skipping down the wicket and punching a single to mid-on, on the opening day of Australia's first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
