Sanjay Roy has been convicted of rape and murder of an RG Kar postgraduate trainee doctor by the Sealdah CBI court in Kolkata.

During the proceedings, the CBI lawyer described the crime as heinous and urged the court to impose the death penalty to uphold public trust in the justice system.

Roy was declared guilty by the court on Saturday under Sections 66 (rape), 64 (causing injury resulting in death) and 103 (1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
