Aussies have been warned to brace for a wet and cold weekend as a massive 3,000km-long cloud band moves across the country.

Forecasters say Tropical Storm Ivo has formed off the coast of southern Mexico in the eastern Pacific Ocean and could bring rain and rough surf to some areas.
