A major winter storm system across Missouri and Kansas this weekend is set to dump heavy snow across the central plains through early next week, the National Weather Service said, with as much as a foot of snow possible in Illinois.

As Illinoisans return to the office after the holiday season, their Monday blues might be further magnified by lake-effect snow on the tail end of a major, disruptive snowstorm that slammed the central United States and by below-normal temperatures later in the week.

(WAND Weather) —Central Illinois' first big snowstorm of the season exited Monday morning. Moderate to heavy snow fell across much of the area Sunday morning through early Monday. As we expected, the heaviest of the snow was around Interstate 72 southward. Much of this area picked up 5-10" of snow.
