BMW has admitted to selling more than 100 high-end cars to Russians despite international sanctions. The German carmaker confirmed a report by Business Insider that revealed premium cars had been sold to Russian buyers, despite an embargo on car exports to the country introduced after the Kremlin launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

BMW discovered irregularities that allowed cars to be transferred to Russia from its branch in Hanover, the German automaker said on Dec. 22.

BMW recently found itself grappling with a troubling revelation. While the company has publicly supported international sanctions against Russia, internal audits revealed that over 100 luxury vehicles were exported to Russian customers from its Hanover facility.

Although it is prohibited, over 100 BMW cars were sent from Germany to Russia. The company is taking action, including against employees, reports Deutsche Welle. The Munich-based car manufacturer BMW discovered irregularities related to the export of cars to Russia.
