Climatologically, it is not supposed to snow in South Florida. The laid-back tropics are a region constantly gaining energy from the sun, and with Florida's temperatures moderated by warm water on three sides, snow is unusual even in the northern reaches of the state.

The National Weather Service office in Lake Charles, Louisiana, said the winter storm has been producing blizzard conditions across southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana as heavy snow and wind gusts impacted the region.

The first ever blizzard warning has been issued for parts of the Texas and Louisiana coast as a historic snowstorm hits the South.

A blizzard warning was issued for southwest Louisiana Tuesday morning as a strong line of snow moved into the state from the west. The blizzard warning, extending from Beaumont, Tezas to Lafayette, Louisiana meant the National Weather Service was forecasting frequent gusts to 35 MPH with snow reducing visibility to ¼ mile or less.
