In light of Ronald Acuna Jr. not being available when Opening Day hits, the Atlanta Braves has addressed their outfield by signing Jurickson Profar to a three-year, $42 million, deal on Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves are finally making moves, with Jurickson Profar now slated to roam the outfield alongside Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II.

Profar, a switch-hitter, began lifting his front leg higher at the start of his swing. He said advice from former major leaguer Fernando Tatis and work with San Diego outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. last offseason helped convince him to make the change, which added power to his swing.

The Braves have only made one notable move this offseason, signing Jurickson Profar to a three-year deal. The outfield was the single biggest area of the team that needed bolstering, but it’s not the only one.

Profar, one-time Texas infielder, now 32, broke into the big leagues at 19 but has been hampered by lack of playing time and uncertainty over how, when, and where he should be used. According to media reports, he had been pursued by several other clubs – including San Diego and Philadelphia – seeking to beef up their batting orders.

After pretending he was Andruw Jones or Chipper Jones in backyard games as a kid, Profar will be the Braves' everyday left fielder.

Profar, a switch-hitting outfielder, will help the Braves fill Ronald Acuña Jr.’s absence, and could be their starting left fielder when Acuna returns.

After a relatively quiet start to the offseason, the Braves agreed to a three-year, $42 million deal with outfielder Jurickson Profar. He will make $12 million in 2025 and $15 million in each of the following two seasons.

Late last spring, the 31-year-old switch-hitter re-signed with the Padres for $1 million plus incentives. It was his third tour with the team as he opted out of his deal after the 2022 season in search of a long-term deal. He ultimately landed with the Colorado Rockies only to rejoin the Padres in August 2023 after he was released.
