On Thursday at 3:14 a.m. a winter weather advisory was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Friday between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. for Carbon, Monroe, Lehigh and Northampton counties.

The National Weather Service (NWS) had winter weather warnings in place for 11 states early on Thursday, with up to 1 foot of snow forecast for some parts of the country. Snow can disrupt travel and lead to hazardous driving conditions.

Following the winter storm, temperatures in Pennsylvania are expected to remain below freezing through the weekend, with lingering snow showers possible in higher elevations. According to the NWS, another system could bring light snow or wintry mix to parts of the state early next week, though confidence in accumulation amounts remains low.

An updated winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 3:31 p.m. in effect until Monday at 1 a.m. for Berks, Lehigh and Bucks counties. "Additional snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches," says the weather service.

The surrounding National Weather Service Offices have extended an Extreme Cold Warning for parts of our viewing area, mainly within The Laurel Highlands. This is the first time The National Weather Service out of State College has issued the new weather headline.

This new type of weather warning was activated because of the dangerously cold temperatures and wind-chill readings in northeastern Pennsylvania.
