GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida Gators men’s basketball team on Tuesday released their initial availability report for their road matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks, and despite the team holding a clean bill of health up to this point, one starting guard was listed on the report.

It seemed like Wednesday was the night jubilation would break thorough. Instead, Florida’s Will Richard hit a layup with seconds left to give No. 5 Florida a 70-69 win over South Carolina (10-9, 0-6 SEC). It is the first time the Gamecocks have started conference play 0-6 since 2013-14.

The No.5 Florida Gators only led for five seconds against South Carolina, but it was the most important five seconds; the final five. Florida’s defense fueled a 14-point comeback to escape Columbia with a 70-69 win. The Gators improved to 17-2 (4-2 SEC) on the 2024/25 season while South Carolina dropped to 10-9 (0-6 SEC).
