President Donald Trump has repeatedly discussed imposing tariffs, both during the campaign and since taking office, and the first tranche, on goods from Canada, China and Mexico will take effect Feb.

Ties between the United States and Mexico have deepened over 30 years of free trade, creating both benefits and irritants.

The order will impose hefty new tariffs of 25% on goods from Mexico and Canada and 10% on imports from China, potentially disrupting more than $2.1 trillion worth of annual trade.
