The trooper was going through the intersection of Route 59 and Higgins Road with his lights and sirens on, when another vehicle hit his squad car.

An Illinois State Trooper was critically injured Saturday morning in a five-vehicle crash in suburban South Barrington that left two other people injured, authorities said.

The fire department said it took almost a half-hour to extricate the trooper from his heavily damaged vehicle.
