An “earthquake swarm” erupted over the weekend in Southern California in which hundreds of earthquakes shook Imperial County — including a 4.7-magnitude tremor on Mother’s Day. While the numerous tremors may be unsettling, two experts say the earthquake swarm is far from unusual for the region.
