The Philadelphia 76ers’ 2024-2025 season has not gone as planned. They are among the worst teams in the league at 20-38, 28 games behind the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers. But it is about to get even worse.

Embiid is being shut down because of a left knee injury, the 76ers announced Friday. The 2022-23 NBA MVP played in only 19 games this season.

On the flip side, if they can’t find a way to allow for Embiid to play pain-free, his NBA career could be over at the age of 31. His career has certainly been a roller coaster to this point, with just as many gut-wrenching low points (and holding patterns) as dizzying heights.
