The Knicks can now hang a banner next to the 1973 NBA championship banner in Madison Square Garden, the last title they won.

This win mattered because of who New York faced in the NBA Cup Final: the San Antonio Spurs, who had been the polar opposite of the Knicks since 2000, having won four championships. The last time the Knicks played a game this big against the Spurs was in the 1999 Finals, where they fell 4-1, kick-starting San Antonio's two-decade dynasty.

The first words out of guard Jalen Brunson’s mouth when he was announced as the NBA Cup MVP on-court, postgame ceremony paid tribute to his team’s role players, specifically OG Anunoby, Tyler Kolek, Jordan Clarkson and Mitchell Robinson.

The Knicks rallied to beat Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 on Tuesday night to win the NBA Cup.
