About 50 residents on Hawaii's Maui island evacuated their homes as a fast-moving brush fire fueled by strong winds encroached on their rural community.

A brush fire that started on Maui over the weekend has resulted in evacuations and burned hundreds of acres. On June 15, Maui County stated that the Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) ordered residents “near Mile Markers 24 and 25 of Kahikinui” to evacuate.

The Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) issued evacuation orders for homes near Mile Markers 24 and 25, with approximately 105 Kahikinui homestead lots in the area. Door-to-door evacuations were also conducted by Maui Police Department and MFD, according to an official update.

Debris from Lahaina wildfires is being trucked to Central Maui Landfill, with delays expected and environmental safeguards in place.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Trucks began to transfer approximately 400,000 tons of Lahaina wildfire debris from the Olowalu Temporary Debris Storage (TDS) site to the Permanent Disposal Site (PDS) adjacent to the Central Maui Landfill in Puʻunēnē.
