IOWA CITY - Tim Lester left little ambiguity last month about his desire to land another quarterback via the transfer portal. "We still don't have enough (quarterbacks) in there," Iowa's offensive coordinator said ahead of the Music City Bowl.

The Hawkeyes substantially upgraded their quarterback room, landing transfers Mark Gronowski (South Dakota State) and Hank Brown (Auburn), while also retaining Brendan Sullivan. Iowa’s unproven receiving corps showed glimpses of potential in its first season under position coach Jon Budmayr but needs to build on that in 2025.

Iowa has picked up a commitment from former Chattanooga wide receiver Sam Phillips out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Phillips is joining the Hawkeyes after leading Chattanooga with 823 receiving yards in 2024.

On3 reported Thursday that Tennessee Chattanooga receiver Sam Phillips was committing to Iowa. He became the program's fifth-known pledge from the portal this cycle.
