Formula 1 championship rivals Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were off the pace during the first practice session in Las Vegas, as Ferrari's Charles Leclerc topped the time sheets.

Charles Leclerc had the pace to fight for a podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix, but his race did not last long after getting caught up in early contact. Leclerc started well from P3, while Lewis Hamilton had work to do from 13th after going out in Q2.

Piastri was dealt a 10-second time penalty at Interlagos for a three-way collision between himself, Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc, who was forced to retire. The Australian was alongside Antonelli on the inside but ran out of room at the apex, which led to him striking the Mercedes who rebounded into Leclerc’s Ferrari.
