Macalla Knott, a native of St. Cloud, pleaded guilty to working with a Mexican drug cartel to import methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl into the Midwest.

The drugs came from Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, according to prosecutors. Guzman, 67, was sentenced in 2019 to life in prison for leading a multibillion-dollar drug-trafficking enterprise that spread murder and mayhem for more than two decades.

FARGO, N.D. — Calling it a “heartbreaking” case, Chief Judge Peter Welte sentenced Macalla “Kayla” Knott to 26 years and nine months in federal prison on Friday, Jan. 3, for her role at the helm of a major drug trafficking ring.
