Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai announced a 48-day protest, pledging to fast and remain barefoot against the DMK government's handling of a university student's alleged sexual assault in Chennai.

Annamalai vowed to lash himself with a whip six times outside his residence and embark on a barefoot protest until the DMK government is removed from power. NCW has taken the suo moto cognizance of the matter.

His protest comes in response to the government's alleged mishandling of the Anna University student sexual harassment case.

COIMBATORE: BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai on Thursday said he would not wear sandals and walk barefoot until the DMK regime is dislodged. Further, he said he would lash himself six times with a whip on December 27 at 10 am outside his residence here to draw people's attention over the tragic sexual assault of the Anna University student.

The sexual assault on a girl student at the prestigious state-run Anna University in the heart of Chennai, on the night before Christmas eve, has sent shockwaves across the state.

BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan and other cadres of the party were detained by the police in Chennai during the protest.

BJP claims the alleged perpetrator has connections with DMK, sharing a photo with Udhayanidhi Stalin. However, DMK refutes these claims.

Annamalai also shared pictures of accused Gnanasekaran with deputy chief minister and son of MK Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin, and other top DMK leaders

DMK spokesperson A Saravanan said that those who cannot shake the party politically continue to spread false allegations that law and order have deteriorated.
