WASHINGTON — A bipartisan duo in the the US House is proposing legislation to ban the Chinese artificial intelligence app DeepSeek from federal devices, similar to the policy already in place for the popular social media platform TikTok.

Researchers linked the AI chatbot to a Chinese state-owned telecommunications company, which has been banned from operating in the U.S.

OTTAWA — The federal government is barring the use of Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek’s chatbot on government devices over “serious privacy concerns” the company can inappropriately collect and retain sensitive data.

Taiwan banned its government agencies from using Chinese AI model DeepSeek, noting it was a security risk, Reuters reported. Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai said during a cabinet meeting that DeepSeek was banned from use in all government agencies "to ensure the country's information security",
