A large winter storm bringing snow and rain is hitting Arizona, forcing closures of I-40 in Ash Fork, Kingman, and Winslow.

It's back to more typical weather for the Phoenix area this weekend as sunshine and warmer temperatures make a brief comeback.

PARKS, Ariz. (AP) — A winter storm dumped heavy snow across northern Arizona on Friday, playing a major factor in a more than 15-mile backup on a major interstate. Semi-trucks and other vehicles were stalled on Interstate 40 westbound between Flagstaff and Williams late Friday as the sun set. The standstill dragged on for hours.

Power was out around Arizona on Friday due to the rainy weather. The Arizona Public Service Co., on its website, reported seven outages in metro Phoenix with 468 customers affected, four outages in northwestern Arizona affecting 82 customers,

Mountain communities in the northern country are preparing for snow, while Valley dwellers are making their way north to see some of the action.
